The best of 2006 - 2014
GD's verdicts - Best of 2013: Cobal
25/12/13 || Cobal
1. Black Sabbath: 13
One of the fans who had the chance to attend the global premiere show of “13” said it all: “Thank you for reminding the world what heavy music sounds like”.
Recommended song: Damaged Soul
2: Darkthrone:The Underground Resistance
The only thing that’s more metal than the very genesis of the genre is fucken speed metal, the 80s way. Played by a Norwegian black metal act in the 21st century, that is.
Recommended song: Valkyrie
3: Satyricon: Satyricon
What Satyricon themselves consider to be the sum of their whole career. They are right about that.
Recommended song: Phoenix
4: Carcass: Surgical Steel
As I’ve stated before, this is all raw, melodic and groovy. A killer.
Recommended song: Unfit for Human Consumption
5: Watain: The wild hunt
Never listened to any Watain’s before. That’s probably because I’m a bit too much into Norwegian stuff. Norwegian’s good. Anyway, I’ve been missing a lot.
Recommended song: The Child Must Die — and I fucken agree.
CLOSE BUT NO SHOT OF MEZCAL:

Ghost: Infestissumam
Not as freaking awesome as its predecessor. Still pretty amazing.

Suffocation: Pinnacle of bedlam
Suffocation is quality guarantee. Guaranteed.

Helloween: Straight out of hell
A lesson on how to play power metal and not suck pumpkin ass while trying.

Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals: Walk through exits only
Every-fucken-body hated this, it appears. I didn’t. A ball-statement if you ask me.
MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENTS OF 2013:

Burzum: Sol austan, mani vestan
While I did enjoy Varg’s previous ambient ventures — namely “Dauði Baldrs” and “Hliðskjálf”, this one is telling me nothing. NOTHING.

Megadeth: Super collider
Just kidding. We all know Mustaine is nothing but full of shit these days. No real disappointment.

The Dillinger Escape Plan: One of us is the killer
What the HELL? Either these guys already stopped trying or they’re trying too hard. We’ve lost them forever.
